WHAT’S NEW- August 2006

I began teaching after the Ashtanga Intensive with Anthony Carlisi. Yoga Hawaii gave me a venue to practice my approach to teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
Well, a year has gone by. Presently, in Honolulu working on some new Blues tracks with Pierre Grill at Rendez-Vous Recordings in Manoa. The reception to Martian Chronicles has been wonderful. Thanks to everyone.

The Summer was good. There were some good swells. Taught many Yoga classes. Travelled to Thailand, Japan, and Bali, Indonesia in August. Met the infamous Mr. Ketut on this trip. Making the Melasti Beach Resort my home away from home.
MAY, 2005 AFTER A WONDERFUL TRIP TO EUROPE VIA:

SAN FRANCISCO. Starting in May-visiting Sister Lee Anne and husband, Jazz guitar great Otis Fuller.

NEW YORK- to experience band drama at its finest with the remaining Les Sans Coulottes, and do Yoga with Guruji, Sri K. Pattabi Jois at the Puck Building, eat at Spark’s Steakhouse with the Jar and Annette(we’d been planning this for years).

LONDON to visit Sophie Reigner with her cool French flatmates. A quick jaunt to BIARRITZ where Sophie and Zachary caught some surf.

Back to LONDON to meet up with the Jar to head to MILAN and Florence( Jar or Jeremy Parzen) where Jar gets the job translaing the best selling Italian murder mystery novel into English. Aside from the Spark’s adventure in New York, we’d always planned to have a Tuscan steak (maybe we should call this trip “the great Steak and Yoga adventure”). Well, it all came together perfectly thanks to Ryanair, Stefano, Anna, Mathilde, the Italian Rail System, and two well dressed gents in Florence- namely the Jar and Zachary.

Back to London and onto the magnificent wedding of Francesca and Michael Kornberg in Marlborough. Mike just becam an M.D. and Cesca published a childen’s book. All the best to Matt Adey, a talented musician. What a great ending- Congratulations. Thanks so much to Sophie and her wonderful hospitality.

JUNE-Back home to Honolulu for an Intense Ashtanga Yoga Intensive learning the Primary Series of Ashtanga with Yoga Hawaii’s Rupali and Prem, Anthony Carlisi for the Month of June.

Zachary is now a certified Yoga Instructor

Well, something happened on the way to the Yoga studio.

A little history, fourteen years ago Zachary met Tni Jinnies, and he got to experience Love and a great life that produced many great songs and poems( The Shade “Blueberries”, GT350, The first album with greats like “Easy”, “Hallways”, and “You Don’t know Blues”). All this great material, and positive growth came about. Hitchcock, walked away went back to drugs, wanton women, and excess to finally near destruction. Back from near death, he woke out of this nightmare, and got back to life, Surfing, friends, Yoga, Tai Chi, and most of all clean living without chemicals- maybe some tea of coffee from time to time, but that’s it.

Back on the way to the Yoga Studio, there was this girl, named Melanie from Montreal who stole his heart. Suddenly, the guitar was out- songs are and are being written. Even the Electric( the notorious 1992 Red Gibson SG) was out with his bad ass Snider combo Amp with the Blues spilling out in a fountain of crisp distorted notes. That poor guitar had’nt been played in two years! Zachary fell and fell hard. See he can’t have this girl- she’s promised to another. The connection is there, whether it happened in another life or will happen later- she was and is his angel. His Muse. And thank you Melanie because there’s talk of a new band, album, and shows. Love. Love. Love. Look for new poems at Ultramega.

Welcome back Zachariah Hitchcock Rocker!

He could’nt stop thinking about her and needed to get away. Off to Thailand, Bali, and Japan to keep his mind off this Woman. What a great trip and Asia is so much fun.

Martian Chronicles

gallery21.jpgZachary Hitchcock: Guitar, Vocals, and SongwriterJust Released*****August 2006 Zachariah releases “Martian Chronicles”A vast array of instrumental and guitar diversity with adventures in sampling, editing, and a new solo acoustic song with cello accompaniment on “Golden Eyed” inspired by Melanie Dagenais of Montreal.Horizontal Bar AnimationDear Friends,You all know there is’nt much of a Rock scene out here in the middle of the Pacific. I’m in Hawaii because it’s one of the only sane places left on the planet.I busted my butt playing music and trying to get a deal. It’s a hard, hard business. After, being let down by bandmates, managers, and producers. I tried to do everything on my own- and you know what? It got to be no fun. When I’m not happy carrying my guitars then I need to chill.Music and Surfing have been the greatest forces in my life. I started playing the guitar when I was 7 years old. I came to Hawaii in 1977 for High School and fell in love with these wonderful islands and beautiful people. That was when I started surfing. I am still so hooked on the sport of Kings that it makeds me crazy to think Sunset Beach is solid six feet, and I’m sitting here typing. My romance with this wave of Paumalu called Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Oahu is as intense as any love affair. This wave brought me back to Hawaii. Ten Years ago, I was sitting inside the peak on a 6 to 8 foot day and this feeling of peace and solitiude came over me. I knew I needed to be there. Everytime, I paddle out I just feel I should be there. Even if it is so huge and nasty that I’m thinking maybe this is too dangerous. It’s intense. There’s a lo t of us who have this same inclination. I call it ‘Sunset Madness’.I give my music to you. It’s not a business anymore. It’s fun. Like Surfing, I am a great surf instructor, but all I charge is a smile. I bring you poems and articles with my viewpoints on subjects wide-ranging and diverse. I recieved a Bachelor’s In Philosophy from the University of San Diego. I’ve gotten a great education all my life and thank my father for leaving me that opputunity. I always apply the knowledge I ‘ve acquired, and through these writings I hope I can interest and inspire you.Six Years ago, I stopped poisoning myself with nicotine, drugs, and alcohol. Drugs have destroyed my family and many friends, and I was headed down that path. Well, I hit rock bottom and stopped.I knew, someday, that Yoga and Tai Chi would be big part of my life. I’d always bugged my Sensei, Terry Sanchez from Twin Dragons Kenpo in San Diego to, teach me Tai Chi, and I spent a years dilligently learning a beautiful form of Tai Chi.A young lady name Courtney Buffington taught me my first Yoga postures. Later, I got into Bikram’s Yoga, and went to be teacher. I saw that that scene was not for me. I took my first Iyengar and Ashtanga classe before I was going to finish my Bikram’s training. I’m not big fan of gimmicks, and, when I found these traditional Yogas, there was no looking back. This boy is’nt buying another Bentley for the fastest cat catcher in Calcutta.I practice and teach Ashtanga Yoga. A system passed down from Krishnamacharya(1888-1989) of Mysore, India to Sri K. Pattahbi Jois incorporating a breath and movement system known as Vinyasa. I find this system works for me because of my surfing, and injuries I’ve acquired over the years. Presently, I embark on the Second Series of the system and see amazing things happening. The challenge this form of Yoga has given me has deeply enhanced my way of life. The emphasis on self-practice is contrary to the trend of led classes, and to the popularization of these disciplines in modern society. This is the science and philosophy of Self-Realisation. For someone like me who has run from, diluted, poisoned and pulluted their self, this has gotten me back on the path to my Self.I’ve definitely gotten my bearings. My self-respect and my ability to love myself is thriving an vital. I hope this love can embrace the world, keep it happy, and protect it.I try to give back to te world that I am apart of. I’ve always helped with my community, the ocean, and environment. Through teaching Yoga, I’ve found a way to help people take care of themselves. I try to help them find out who they are and what they are capable of.What I see lacking in our world is respect, compassion, health, song, dance, and smiles.I promise that I will try my hardest to reestablish these values and qualities in our world.Namaste, Aloha, and Mahalo,
